Weather conditions in Ayacara, Patagonia South
Chile
Given that Chile stretches from 18ºS
to 56ºS, and reaches from sea level to heights exceeding 6,000m, it is
not surprising that there exists a huge range of climates. As a
general rule, temperatures drop and rainfall increases as you move
south through Chile, but this is strongly influenced by the local topography.
The far north of Chile is one of the driest areas in the world
The Lakes region: Pleasant but changeable weather in the summer.
Cold and wet in the winter with snow in the Andes.
Patagonia: Highly changeable weather with winds and storms that
drop large amounts of rain and snow. Despite the unpredictable weather,
the long days in summer permit outdoor activities.
Weather in Ayacara and surroundings: Rainy, the year average precipitation
is 2535 mm., though in January and February is just 67 mm. Pleasant climate
but changeable weather in the summer. Cold and wet in the winter with
snow in the Andes.
Average Temperature: Summer: 16.7° C - Winter: 7.9° C
Fishing Season: Second Friday in November to the first Sunday
in May.
Rainforest flowering season: September to March
There are no dangerous animals or insects in the region.
Recommendations - What clothes to bring:
In the Summer season (December to March) bring along summer cloths, though
do not forget to include some warmer cloths and some for the rainy days.
Bring along comfortable and water resistant shoes (hiking shoes are the
best. It is best to purchase your shoes well in advance to allow proper
break-in time).
Also do not forget a waterproof sunscreen lotion and lip balm (SPF 15
or higher).
We recommend you to bring a wide range of clothes in preparation for the
unpredictable weather you will probably be confronted with in the south.
It is better to have lots of thin layers rather than one thick layer so
that you can adapt to the changing weather. Make sure you have waterproofs,
preferably breathable, a pair of gloves, a brimmed hat to protect you
from the sun and rain, a good pair of walking boots and a pair of sunglasses.
When to Go
Spring and summer, from November to April is the best season to go, these
are the drier months than the winter months, but expect rain at any time.
Rain is heavier during May to October, and cold.
