Patagonia flora observation tours, rainforest flowers of
Chile
The
temperate rainforest of the South of Chile and Argentina represent the
biggest region of the Temperate Forest, specially unaltered, yet almost
virgin.
It is mainly dominated by tree species like: Roble, Raulí, Coigue or Coihue
(Nothofagus dombeyi), Mañíu (Podocarpus nubigenus), Hazel
and coniferous, like Alerce (Fitzroya cupressoides) and Cypress.
These native forests shelters many different flora and fauna species.
Between
Bío Bío River, Chiloé island and Palena region is located the humid temperate
forest, characteristic by its high rain level per year. According to the
Native Forest National Cadastre, only the Tenth Continental Region of
Chile has an important area of intact forest and a great part of this
natural reserve is located on Huequi Peninsula. The variety richness
of flora and fauna species of this rainforest is so highly valued
that has been listed as one of the 25 eco-regions for priority conservation
around the world.
The Huequi peninsula forest has wide variety of specimens, due
to the height differences, latitudes (development) and soils with a prolonged
isolation.
Rainforest flowering season: September to March
There are no dangerous animals or insects in the region.
At the El Avellano
lodge we offer tailor-made flora observation excursions to the
rainforest. The trips may be from 1 to 5 days long depending how far
we go to find the different species of this vast temperate forest of the
Huequi Peninsula. Please
