The life of the Huequi Peninsula communities is very colorful in traditions which are tightly related to the forests, the farm, the sea, the agriculture and fishing, with multiple religious and musical expressions. These communities have rich weaving tradition and tasty gastronomy.

Each year in February we have at our village a traditional celebration called "Festival Costumbrista de Ayacara", where you are invited to experience all these multiple aspects of local culture and tradition. Ayacara people are nice and friendly and will let you have a closer look to their everyday tasks and activities interacting with you.

At El Avellano lodge at evening we organize cultural - folklore shows with local singers and dancers.

The most representative dish is curanto, a hearty catch-all stew traditionally cooked in a hole in the earth. Cancato it is also a traditional dish which is a grilled fish stuffed with a variety of vegetables, cheese or sausage.

Spanish culture mixed with native culture and a unique rural tradition came into being of Ayacara people. The Jesuit order made this corner of the world their special responsibility, leaving their mark with multiple wooden churches built with shingles (walls and roof), a unique Chiloé traditional architecture style.
